SAN MATEO — There was a time when Serra could not beat St. Francis. For 35 games over 34 years starting in the early 1970s, this series between the West Catholic Athletic League schools was dominated by the program from Mountain View. That era is obviously long gone, a faded memory as Serra has ascended to the top under longtime coach Patrick Walsh. Now the undisputed No. 1 team in Northern California, the San Mateo powerhouse did nothing to tarnish the prestigious label on Saturday as the Padres built a four-touchdown halftime advantage and went on to a 45-17 victory over St. Francis in a game that had a running clock for the entire fourth quarter. Two years ago in this same stadium, St. Francis dominated the home team to capture the league championship as its running back ran for 344 yards in 45 carries.Saturday, St. Francis had one first down in the first half, courtesy of an early trick pass play that covered 69 yards and could have led to a tying touchdown.Instead, despite ha...Stanford’s hot start can’t stop No. 9 Oregon from rolling past Cardinal 42-6

STANFORD – Once the Oregon Ducks got rolling against Stanford, it didn’t stop. The Cardinal (1-4, 0-3 Pac-12) held the nation’s second-highest scoring offense to two three-and-outs to start the game and led 6-0 early in the second quarter. But the ninth-ranked Ducks scored touchdowns on six of the next seven drives and won 42-6 on Saturday afternoon in its last scheduled appearance at Stanford Stadium. The one possession that Oregon didn’t convert into a score came at the end of the first half, when it drove 55 yards in 40 seconds but missed a 38-yard field goal attempt. Most of Stanford’s offense came from scrambles and designed runs by quarterback Justin Lamson, who had 22 rushes for 33 yards. That total included being sacked four times for a loss of 28 yards. The Syracuse transfer also completed 11 of 20 passes for 106 yards.Lamson and Ashton Daniels split time at quarterback until Daniels left the game with an injury after being sacked early in the second quarter.Bo Nix completed 2...Bo Nix throws 4 TD passes to lead No. 9 Oregon past Stanford 42-6

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Once Oregon’s offense got started, the Ducks couldn’t be stopped. Bo Nix threw touchdown passes on the first four drives of the second half and No. 9 Oregon shook off a shaky start by scoring TDs on six of seven possessions to beat Stanford 42-6 on Saturday.“We started off a little slow, but we kicked it into gear,” coach Dan Lanning said. ”I thought our guys responded. We just had to get through that lull to start.”Oregon (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) took nearly 20 minutes to gain its initial first down of the game as the Ducks started off slowly after last week’s emotional win over Colorado and with a showdown against No. 7 Washington coming in the next game. But Oregon then took over the game from there against overmatched Stanford (1-4, 0-3) and avoided a repeat of a slipup here similar to the one two years ago.Nix completed 27 of 32 passes for 290 yards, putting the game out of reach in the third quarter.
